Slavery During the civil war there were many states who were for slavery and there were also many states against slavery. Most of the states in the south were slave states. The south mainly wanted slaves because they wanted people to work for them without having to pay them. If the south didn't have to pay their slaves that means they would have more money for land and taxes. The south depended on the slaves to take care of their farms and also to take care of all the crops. The north states didn't like how the south had people work for them but didn't have to pay them. The north worked in mills that they owned & operated.
Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln was very much against slavery. Lincoln thought slavery was unfair to the slaves and was not bad politics. Lincoln did not think that blacks should be granted the same rights as white people, but he still did not think they should be used as slaves.
The underground railroad The under ground rail road was an organization or a route slaves or people trying to hide. This network was not an actual rail road. Many slave that escaped would use the under ground railroad to get up to the northern states or even to Canada. Sense no one to charge of the railroad it became chaotic. Soon Harriet Tubman, a slave that had escaped and had promised her family she would return for them took charge and lead her family and 300 other slaves to freedom. The government even had offered anyone who turned Tubman in a 40,000$ reward. But that didn't stop her from helping slaves to freedom
